“What gift basket items do you buy for a brand new mama?!”
That’s the question that sparked this post. I have a best friend who just had a baby, and I wanted to take her some happies that wouldn’t break the bank. But y’all, I swear the ONLY thing my brain would think of was dry shampoo, dry shampoo, and more dry shampoo. (Because, true). So I asked around for advice (Wildbird mamas, I’m looking at you!) The responses were so legit that I decided I’d share here with everyone.
First, let me just say that FOOD is always a winner! Take them dinner for sure. Cooking should not be on a new mom’s agenda. We live in the South, so I’m not even sure this one needs to be listed. It’s just a given. But, if you’d like to do something else or something more…
*All of the below items are very generic/affordable. Pick up your favorite or the new mama’s favorite (if you know it)!
Here are some amazing new mama gift suggestions:
- Dry shampoo (so. much. yes.)
- Lip scrub (dem crusty crusts need love)
- Lip balm
- Cozy socks or slippers
- Book (Loved this suggestion. Even if it takes you 18 years to finish it.)
- Parenting book (if you’re close)
- Tiny wine bottle (You will get shit on. You will get thrown up on. You will cry. You will lose your mind. You know what, just grab the big bottle!)
- Alcohol test strips (see above)
- Face masks (the Dr. Jart mask pictured is amazing! Thank you extra-enthusiastic Sephora lady! She was so convincing that I picked up one for myself too. I can confirm that it’s legit. Feeling hydrated AF)
- Facial wipes (for the days/weeks you choose sleep over shower/hygiene)
- Makeup removing wipes
- Hydrating mist
- Bath bombs
- “Go the F to Sleep” book (It’s absolutely hilarious. Like, belly laughs. Found it at Barnes & Noble. *contains curse words*)
- Handwritten note
- Fragrance free hand lotion (for those supa dry hands you wash nonstop)
- Comfy lounge pants
- Earth Mama bottom balm (Can get at Target or online. I’ve never used this, but several mamas said it’s the best thing they’ve ever purchased. Great for soreness/tears/hemorrhoids. Gives you cooling relief. They have a csection salve too.)
- I did use Dermoplast pain relieving spray (assuming it’s probably similar?), and that shiz is amaze (walmart, cvs, walgreens, target, etc, etc)
- Nipple cream
- Journal
- Coffee/tea
- Water bottle
- Starbucks gift card
- Coconut water (“as much as can fit in the basket”)
- SNACKS, SNACKS, SNACKS: anything one-handed (triscuits, cheese, apples, chocolate, barkTHINS, aussie bites [these came HIGHLY recommended, but only sold at Costco], figgy pops (Costco), Cliff bars, pistachios without shells, roasted pumpkin seeds, dried figs & apricots, lactation cookies/bars, granola bars, Annie’s crackers, mixed nuts)
How incredible is this list?! I would love to hear what gift items you love &/or would love to get/gift as a new mama! Drop a comment below.
Thanks for stopping in, friends! I’m signing off to my bottle of dry shampoo…
